Legal Information
Last updated: 2 November 2026
This page sets out the legal and company information that applies to Headlinx.org, an English-language South African digital magazine about entertainment, celebrity culture, lifestyle and the people who shape South African popular culture. It is written to be read by ordinary readers rather than lawyers, and it explains who operates the site, what rules apply when you use it, and what you can do if something goes wrong.
1. Who We Are and the Role We Play
Headlinx.org is published and operated by Media24 (Pty) Ltd, a media company registered and carrying on business in the Republic of South Africa. In the language of South African consumer and electronic-commerce law, the company is the "operator" of this website: it decides why the site exists, what content is published on it, how it is funded, and how the personal information collected through it is used.
When this notice refers to "we", "us" or "our", it means that operator. When it refers to "you", it means the person visiting or using the website, whether you are a reader, a commenter, a subscriber, an advertiser or simply someone who has followed a link from a social platform.
We are responsible for the editorial content published under the Headlinx.org name and for the technical operation of the site. We are not responsible for content that appears on other websites, even where we link to it or where it links to us. Third-party material is dealt with in section 8 below.
2. Legal Form, Registration Details and Statutory Identifiers
The operating company is a private company with limited liability, incorporated and registered in South Africa under the Companies Act 71 of 2008. Its core non-contact legal identifiers are:
- Registered company name: Media24 (Pty) Ltd
- Company registration number: 1950/030438/07
- Country of registration: Republic of South Africa
- Registering authority: Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)
- Legal form: private company (Proprietary Limited) with limited liability
- Registered office: 86 St George's Street, Simon's Town, Cape Town, 7975, South Africa
Section 32 of the Companies Act requires a South African company to place its full registered name and its registration number on its business correspondence and on its website, so that anyone dealing with it can identify the legal entity behind the brand and check its standing. The Headlinx.org name is the brand under which the company publishes; the entity that carries legal responsibility for the site is the company named above.
Tax identifiers
Where the operating company is registered for Value-Added Tax under the Value-Added Tax Act 89 of 1991, its VAT registration number is reflected on the valid tax invoices it issues to advertisers, subscribers and other customers. If you need the company's VAT registration number for your own records, you may request it using the email address given in section 3.
Representatives and responsible persons
The company acts through its board of directors and through the officers it appoints. For information-protection purposes, the company has appointed an Information Officer, who is responsible for compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and for handling requests and complaints about personal information. The identity and business details of the current Information Officer, and of any deputy, are maintained by the company and may be obtained using the contact route in section 3.
Licences and regulated activity
Publishing a digital magazine is not, in itself, a licensed activity in South Africa. Where we carry on activities that are regulated — for example competitions that must comply with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, or advertising that must comply with the code administered by the Advertising Regulatory Board — we do so under the relevant rules and, where a permit or registration is required, we hold it before the activity begins.
3. Our Registered Office and How to Contact Us
Our registered office, and the address at which we will accept service of legal documents, is 86 St George's Street, Simon's Town, Cape Town, 7975, South Africa.
For questions about this notice, requests for company information, editorial complaints, correction requests, content-removal requests, or privacy and data-protection queries, please write to [email protected]. You can also use the contact form on the Contacts page; messages sent through the form are delivered to the same team.
Written correspondence is the channel we use for formal legal and privacy matters, because it creates a clear record for both parties and lets us attach the documents that may be needed.
We aim to answer written queries within a reasonable period, normally within 30 days. Where a longer period is allowed by law — for example for a formal access request under the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 — we will tell you the reason and the expected timeline.
4. Purpose, Scope and Intended Audience of the Website
Headlinx.org exists to report on, review and discuss entertainment, celebrity culture and the creative industries in South Africa: film, television, streaming, music, red-carpet events, reality shows and the personalities associated with them. The website is aimed at a general South African audience, as well as at readers in the wider region and in the South African diaspora who follow local popular culture.
The site is published in English. Some linked or embedded material — a video clip, an interview, a social media post — may be in another language or may come from an international source; where that happens, we identify the source so that you can judge it for yourself.
This legal notice applies to the whole of the website, including articles, galleries, video pages, the blog, comments, newsletter sign-up pages and any other page that links to it. Where a particular page or activity has its own rules — a competition, a paid subscription, a reader event — those rules apply in addition to this notice, and where they conflict with it on the specific subject they cover, the more specific rules take precedence for that activity.
5. Access To and Acceptable Use of the Website
You may read, browse and share the public pages of this website free of charge. Access is granted on the terms set out here and in our companion policies. You do not need an account to read articles; an account, or a subscription, may be needed for commenting, newsletters, competitions or premium features.
You agree not to:
- use the site in a way that breaks any law, including laws about hate speech, defamation, harassment and unlawful discrimination;
- post or transmit material that is defamatory, obscene, threatening, invasive of another person's privacy, or that infringes anyone's intellectual property;
- impersonate another person, or misrepresent your connection to any person or organisation;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, its servers, its databases or other users' accounts;
- introduce malware, or use automated tools to scrape, overload or interfere with the site;
- post commercial, political or promotional material in reader discussion areas, where doing so is not expressly permitted;
- frame, mirror or re-publish substantial parts of the site without our written permission.
We may, but are not obliged to, moderate, edit, move or remove any material submitted by readers, and we may suspend or close accounts or block access where we reasonably believe the rules above have been broken. Where a comment or article is removed, we are not obliged to give reasons, but we will usually do so if you ask politely.
6. Content, Trademarks and Intellectual Property
Unless a page states otherwise, all content on this website — articles, headlines, photographs, illustrations, graphics, videos, quizzes and page design — is owned by Media24 (Pty) Ltd or is licensed to it, and is protected by the Copyright Act 98 of 1978 and by international copyright rules.
The names, logos and mastheads used on this site, including Headlinx.org, are trade marks of the company or of its licensors. You may not use them in a way that suggests endorsement, sponsorship or an official connection where none exists.
You may, without asking, link to our articles and quote short extracts for reporting, review or criticism, provided you attribute the article to Headlinx.org and, where practicable, link back to it. Reproducing an entire article, a photo gallery, or a full set of our photographs requires prior written consent, which you may request at [email protected].
By posting a comment or other submission, you confirm that you own it or have the right to post it, and you give us a free licence to display, archive and moderate it in connection with the site.
7. Accuracy, Availability and Limits on Liability
We work to keep our reporting accurate, but entertainment news moves quickly. Statements about a person's career, relationships or plans may change after publication, and a story that was true when written may no longer be true later. If a mistake is drawn to our attention, we will correct it promptly and, where appropriate, add a note explaining what changed.
Comment pieces, opinions, reader comments and third-party material reflect the views of their authors and not necessarily ours. They are not statements of fact, and you should treat them accordingly.
The site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, and we may suspend it for maintenance. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profit or data, or for any loss caused by your reliance on third-party material.
Nothing in this notice limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
8. Links to Other Sites and Third-Party Content
Our pages may link to other websites, embed video or social media posts, or display advertising supplied by third parties. Those services are controlled by their own operators, and their terms, privacy notices and content rules apply when you use them. We do not control those services and we are not responsible for their content, availability or data practices.
A link from Headlinx.org is not an endorsement. If you believe that something we have linked to, or embedded, is unlawful or infringes your rights, please tell us at [email protected] and we will look into it.
9. Privacy, Cookies, Terms of Use, Payments and Refunds
This legal notice is only one part of the framework that governs the site. The following companion documents form part of the terms on which you use Headlinx.org, and you should read them together with this page:
- Privacy Policy — explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and how long we keep it, and sets out your rights under POPIA.
- Cookie Policy — explains the cookies and similar technologies used on the site, what each category does, and how you can control them through the cookie banner and your browser settings.
- Terms and Conditions — the contractual rules for using the site, contributing comments and entering competitions.
- Payment and Refund Policy — how subscriptions, once-off purchases and reader events are paid for, and when money is refunded.
- PAIA Manual — the manual published in terms of section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000, describing the records we hold and how to request access to them.
Where these documents are silent, this legal notice applies; where they are more specific, they take precedence on their subject matter.
10. Advertising, Sponsored Content and Editorial Independence
Advertising, sponsored articles, brand partnerships and affiliate links help pay for the journalism on Headlinx.org. We label sponsored and paid-for content clearly, and we do not allow an advertiser to approve or veto editorial coverage.
Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team. Where a story concerns a company that also advertises with us, the newsroom decides whether and how to report it, and no commercial team has the right to remove it. If you think a piece of content is not properly labelled, tell us at [email protected].
11. Governing Law, Courts and Your Consumer Rights
This website is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Nothing on this page excludes any protection you have under South African consumer law.
If you have a complaint, please raise it with us first at [email protected] so that we have the chance to resolve it directly. If we cannot resolve it, the Consumer Protection Act gives you the right to refer certain complaints to the National Consumer Commission, and to approach the National Consumer Tribunal, a consumer court or an accredited ombud scheme where one applies. You may also use the dispute-resolution route in the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act where it applies to an online transaction.
Where a dispute must be decided by a court, the courts of the Republic of South Africa have jurisdiction, and the proceedings will be conducted in English.
12. Changes to This Notice and Final Contact Details
We review this page from time to time, and we update it when the law, our company details or the way we run the site changes. The date at the top of the page shows when the current version took effect. The version displayed on this page is the one that applies to your use of the site; older versions are kept for record purposes and are available on request.
If you have any question about this notice, about the company behind the site, or about how we handle personal information, please write to [email protected] or use the contact form on the Contacts page.
